Floriday state were not selected for the College football playoffs despite being undefeated, but did qualify for the Orange Bowl. Rather than put in an effort in the game though and bolster their case that they should have been selected, instead over twenty players sat out the game and they were crushed by Georgia. Most reports just said “Florida had over 20 players unavailable” without noting that they could have played if they really wanted to.
This was Florida state trying to make a statement about a “broken” process. Governor DeSantis has pledged $1MM to fund legal challenges, because of course. Georgia’s case for unclusion in the playoffs was just as strong and they didn’t sit it out.

Oh well, at least those players who sat out might’ve extended their life expectancy by avoiding another crushing bout of brain-scrambling.

No doubt.
I tried not to address the various well-known cons about college football in my post. It was a really crappy protest instead of what is usually a pretty competitive game.

The NFL considers this to be a “safe sport”
Does the NFL consider it to be a safe sport?
ETA: I looked at the NFL mission statement and the official rules. Nothing addresses whether the game is a safe sport. There are only a few references to illegal acts that affect player safety.

Its owners have long known it’s not.
As with boxing, those making the most money don’t care at all how much the brutality maims and kills the participants. Unless it somehow lessens their cash flow.
