Oh, they’ve made up their minds allrigt. And they chose to be assholes.
The actual house is in Winnetka IL. I think there has been a change of owners. For a few years the homeowners were downright hostile to tourists and the house had a chain link fence around it and barrier material hiding the view. For the last few years the house has been visible again. I expect that with yesterday’s snow there are more sightseers than usual today.
Its good but I always find it way too crowded. Very hard to manuever around.
The mugs are nice though.
Closed several days early thanks to the extreme weather.
And now I’ve read the article. I feel like I’m dumber for having read it. Did she do no actual research? Guess not. But she had an excuse to write off her expenses to justify a family trip from 2 states away, yippee.
Speaking of Christmas markets, Toronto’s Christmas market in the distillery district is one of the best in the world.
And the Cavalcade of Light at City Hall with fireworks is awesome.
I really miss Toronto, haven’t been since the before times. We love Toronto at Christmas time.
Moon Beams for Sweet Dreams has been a tradition for several years. People gather outside the children’s section of the hospital and shine lights up to the kids while they shine thier lights back. A fire truck shows up and Santa climbs up the ladder to the kid’s window. It’s an emotional 10 minutes.
It’s just me and the wife this evening, I think we’ll make the drive and participate. Haven’t gone since they put it on hold for covid.
And it’s not Christmas until Darlene Love says it is.
One that you won’t hear on any of the 24 hour Christmas radio stations.
One that drives our daughter bonkers but I love the song and video.
And a favorite year round song that gets played a lot at Christmas.
I play covers of River at Christmas to distinguish Christmas time.
Tracy Thorn
Béla Fleck
Both of those are on Christmas albums and both are excellent records. The Fleck one has Tuvan throat singing but the Tracy Thorn one has Tracy Thorn singing.
The weather map of the US :
Here in the heart of “This is some fucked up shit” we have rolling blackouts for the first time ever. Right now it’s 30 minutes every 3 hours.
Trust a Texan- rolling black outs are a whole lot better than the alternative
ETA: according to the news, demand has far exceeded ERCOT (our ‘regulator’) predictions. We find Thursday and yesterday because of a big boost to wind power. But today might be dicey
Oh, definitely! Our local utilities (electric, water, sewer, gas) are municipally run, not a publicly traded company like Alabama Power, and really well managed IMO. Dare I say it: socialism for the win.
ETA: hoping for the best for you in TX
