You’d be surprised how many chemists made the decision to taste X thing. Usually its an accidental development due to poor lab practices, how do you think we got artificial sweeteners?

Not horribly uncommon, and exceptionally common.

(Personally, I own a few examples of en hydro rocks, mostly quartz crystals.)
