I think that any painting that generates this much discourse, is to be considered ‘art’. Like or Dislike, that’s really irrelevant.
Just an interesting observation.

“Race Card”. Pretty much tells us all we need to know about you.
Welcome to BoingBoing, new poster. We hope you stick around to provide more of your thoughtful, balanced and insightful commentary.
No, technically he said ‘one could’ which absolves him of the statement.
vigilant(e)
The ‘more naked than naked’ comportment.
If Trayvon was white, he’d be a dead white boy.
But if Trayvon had been white, he wouldn’t have gotten shot for walking through a street.
At least not that street.
“these assholes, they always get away.”
While I always argue that all racism is bad, even when directed against white(ish) people, it is you mouthbreathers that keep making me side with the bleeding heart liberals.
*Like many languages, English uses capitalization to make the writing more legible.
But you don’t have to do that unless you want for your submission to be taken serious.
…and crimson his favorite color.
If he sold this anonymously on e-bay, do you think his painting would generate this much discourse?
I am of the opinion that much of the discourse revolves around him using his global name recognition to sell something. Global name recognition which came from killing a teenager.
He seems to be embracing his infamy, and trying to profit from it. And some people have a moral problem with that.
God forbid that I ever kill a teenager. But if I did, in self-defense or by accident, I would likely spend much of the rest of my life hanging low and avoid reminding the world of what I’d done.
Of course not, and I do agree with your point, an anonymous submission would be completely ignored. You could also make the same kind of comparison with other painters as well. Their work generates buzz over who they are, not the skill of their work.
I’m not going to take sides on the issue of who he is or what he did, there’s more than enough folks on either side throwing the poo of internet discourse here. And please, thats not an insult by any means, please don’t take it that way.
I’d rather ignore the fellow. Right or wrong, Zimmerman is a troll, and we’re feeding him with what he wants, attention.
Cheers.
Dey derk ur jerbs!!
lmfao…you’re so right! I still say it looks like a Paint By Numbers
Indeed. I was going to comment earlier on how Damien Hirst and Bob Dylan have generated controversy, and buzz, in re-using prior work in their paintings. But then, their fame came from other artistic pursuits, and not in connection with a highly controversial trial, and I think that’s the larger factor fueling the discourse.
Cheers with beers!
Godwin’s Amendment: Return time of said reference will be shortened in proportion to it’s aptness.
y’know, scrolling by i really hate seeing his picture… time after time. here’s the story… george gets told by police not to confront trayvon. george leaves his vehicle and confronts trayvon. george shoots trayvon fatally in the chest at point blank range. george shows up with injuries and no witnesses.
you cocomaan, why wouldn’t anyone feel free to go for a walk with you around?
I think you might have grabbed the wrong razor when you left the house this morning. Easy to do, happens to the best of us…
Hah! Paint by numbers. I thought almost same but I assume it is a printed picture in photoshop and colorized schematic to paint in. Graph, pencil, number, paint.
Be careful with that damp cleaning rag when wiping latex paintings.
What does that say about Maker Culture?
Shall I write your essay? Turn that around and explain.
Merely that bb aims to be a blog that intersects with maker culture, so I would expect a few more responses that focus less on the artist and more on the process of making art.
