Giant hammer theft story takes a strange tack

In October 5-6th, someone stole an art piece of a 800-pound ball-peen hammer with a 21-foot-long handle.

A $1000 reward was posted, but nothing turned up until now, when a giant nail inscribed with “Bait” appeared in the spot where the hammer used to be.

Nothing is known about the hammer thief, except that they are probably very worthy. And if the goal of the latest addition was to deepen the mystery with an amusing twist? “Nailed it!”*

They’re in trouble. Even if the hammer is returned, how are they going to draw that nail? It’s a ball and peen, not a claw hammer.
