Glenn "Instapundit" Reynolds suspended from Twitter after suggesting motorists run down protestors

They’re already doing that, just externalizing it to Jesus in a wonderful bit of circular thinking. “I believe that x is wrong or immoral.” “God is the source of morality.” “God can’t support x”

Appeal to authority. “X says Y is bad. X says they can’t do Y, but we can. X says Y is good and always has been good.”

Reminds me of Animal Farm.

Nobody is suggesting (well, I’m not, although that guy later who suggests I’m in favor of running over jaywalkers might want to conflate the two) that someone protesting on the street should be run over.

Linked arms across an interstate might be inappropriate, and it might not be possible to get a permit to do so in the name of what most of us here would say is justifiable free speech, but that’s still different from ‘people swarming cars’ on the freeway. That’s borderland Mad Max type shit there, and a ‘can of bear spray’ as also suggested here means they’ve already breached the car.

Protest, and protest inconveniently, fine, but keep your hands to yourself. If someone has made the leap from political speech, even loud aggressive in your face this is real and deal with it type protesting, to outright rioting (swarming cars, etc) I feel like they’ve lost the shield that protects them. More precisely I feel like they actively discarded it, and don’t understand why it’s my responsibility to indulge them.

I don’t want to run someone over, I’m not a right wing nut job, and from the outside looking at the situation I don’t think it’s likely that people on the interstate would be harmed by the mob. Yet mobs represent the worst parts of people and why do the rioters get a pass at potentially harming people but the same person driving through isn’t given that same pass? How is the potential risk to the guy or gal driving home and getting pulled out of their car and beat to smithereens or worse seen as better than that person running over rioters threatening them with bodily harm?

I can’t imagine why a white person surrounded by angry rioting black people would be fearful for his life.

Oh…

It was a peaceful protest until someone got shot (again) and then it went to hell. No one is giving rioting a free pass.

I can absolutely imagine why an innocent black man in America would be fearful for his life. I’m not sure what that has to do with the suggestion that the only reason someone in a car surrounded by rioters would have to fear for his life is racism, though.

Nope.

I’ve watched the GOP noise machine do that for too long. Going along with that sort of crap because “liberals have got better things to fight for” is why WE KEEP LOSING among broader groups. It’s also why conservatives who are interested in more than simply picking schoolyard fights are being shouted-down by the WHINOS. Lunatics whose political involvement would otherwise be limited to bar fights, klan rallies, and indecipherable screeds thrown away by any responsible news editor are actually thought of as a viable demographic with a valid philosophy that deserves attention.

When someone is a reactionary, I’ll keep calling them a reactionary and deny them the intellectual cover of implying that they’ve actually thought about anything.

Don’t forget to tack on “And Hilary started it”

I feel you. I’m the same way about “begs the question.”

I will not stop calling Hillary Clinton a conservative, because she is one. I will not stop calling Donald Trump a reactionary fascist, because he is one.

That’s not what I meant. The Tea Party et al. have hijacked the word conservative, so rational conservatives need a term to distinguish themselves from the low-information mob. If you go around calling yourself a conservative you run the risk of being mistaken for a reactionary fascist.

The problem is it ends up watering down all the other words. For example, New Labour calling themselves socialist.

The workers flag is palest pink,
It’s not as red as you might think.
White collar workers shout and cheer
A Labour Government is here.
We’ll change the country bit by bit.
So nobody will notice it.
And just to show we’re quite sincere
We’ll sing the Red Flag once a year.

Eventually, nobody on the left wing will be able to describe themselves, while we have “communists” who run businesses and ask for tax breaks. But maybe that is the point (not yours, the right wing’s).

well obviously he meant run them down in the vernacular usage of talk trash or badmouth them!

I also would like to run Reynolds down while driving a car, over him.

But I don’t do it because running people down all the time is just a cause of so much negativity.

You can throw a locked car into a fire? I want to lift weights at your gym.

Reynolds suggested motorists not sit in their cars waiting to be beaten to death… the intent was defense, not murder… it makes more sense to sit in your car and wait for the angry “protesters” to beat you to death and steal your car

This can’t be real, can it?

i thought Xeni considers Glenn Reynolds a friend?

Dear Professor Reynolds, a private company declining to host calls for vehicular murder, serious or otherwise, is not censorship.

You would think right-wing libertarian law professors would have a better grasp of the concept of private property.
