Advertisers Say They Do Not Plan to Return to X After Musk’s Comments
Elon Musk, the owner of X, criticized advertisers with expletives on Wednesday at The New York Times’s DealBook Summit.
Skinhead Cookie Monster would not be that far off base.
… I don’t understand his decision-making process
If, for instance, he wants to be a stand-up comic, he can afford all the training and coaching in the world, and he could buy the conglomerate that owns Comedy Central for a few billion dollars
The things he does don’t have anything to do with what he seems to want
… yes, he is
A few years ago “recluse” was working a lot better for him than “public figure” is now
All he had to do was shut up and let people keep thinking he was a genius
How much intelligence does it take to profit from your father’s emerald mine, really?
It makes for a good zinger, but really, Musk’s wealth is only tangentially based on his family’s fortunes.
He got started by doing a crummy dot-com with his brother, that got bought for millions because it was dot-com boom. Then he started another, the ill-famed X, where he managed a merger with his competitor PayPal, and was ousted as the CEO after just a few months because he was so thoroughly shit at it. But he kept his shares, and got even more millions when eBay bought out PayPal. Then he “invested” in Tesla, and rode its success, and massive overvaluation of Tesla stock, to where he is now.
Really, Musk is the platonic ideal of a mediocre-to-useless white guy who keeps on failing upwards because he’s a mediocre white guy, and lucky to boot.
He’s basically an idiot who failed upwards after starting on 3rd base, but that’s how the capitalist system works. It does not take great strategic genius to become wealthier…
I mean, as a teenager he was walking around with emeralds in his pocket and cashing them in at Tiffany’s. Not many teenagers can claim that good of an after-school job.
Anything getting rid of these carbon based lifeform that’s a drain on earth resource is considered sustainable.
Or, using the Nitter mirror
oh god we may have something in common
During the sit-down, interviewer Andrew Ross Sorkin asked Musk about his post agreeing with an X user’s accusation that “Jewish communities” push “hatred against whites.” After ostensibly expressing regret for the post, which led to companies like Disney and Netflix pulling ads from X, Musk effectively reversed course. “Prominent people in the Jewish community,” he claimed, helped fund “demonstrations for Hamas in every major city in the West.”

Worse, as both Islamophobia and antisemitism are skyrocketing in America, Musk used this moment to also spread Islamophobia by claiming that all protests against the war in Gaza support Hamas.
the family connection really helps in a vc world which is, in reality, tiny, and overwhelming white.
one could probably do a social graph of who’s who that knows his family. but even if no one did, the air of wealth ( hmmm… heir of wealth in this case ) is a huge leg up for getting access to vc cash.
eta:
a bit of his own gish gallop. although probably inadvertent, because most outlets are happier to focus on f*you then calling him out as a racist and anti-semite.
Also I don’t see how this law would square with official sanctions - would corporations not only be able to, but have to, say “Sorry, but we can’t stop trading with Iran/Russia/ISIS. Oh, and thanks by the way, because now we can’t stop doing business with them even if it stops being profitable because that might get labelled an illegal 'political boycott.”

At least half a dozen marketing agencies said the brands they represent were standing firm against advertising on X, while others said they had advised advertisers to stop posting anything on the platform. Some temporary spending pauses that advertisers have enacted in recent weeks against X are likely to turn into permanent freezes, they added, with Mr. Musk’s comments giving them no incentive to return.
Where of course “his comments gave us no incentive to return” is how they say “umm, he literally told us to go fuck ourselves multiple times during an interview”. He’s so out of place here they don’t have language for it.
That last bit, where he blames all these companies for the eventual death of Xitter, and seems to think “the Earth” will judge them for it. . . .
The perfect example that he lives in a bubble surrounded by the voices of his weirdo sycophant lickspittles. Outside of that sphere nobody on the planet will blame those corporations, everyone will blame him, and those companies will still be around when Xitter is a memory.
as both Islamophobia and antisemitism are skyrocketing in America, Musk used this moment to also spread Islamophobia by claiming that all protests against the war in Gaza support Hamas.
In the minds of many bigots, the best way to prove you don’t hate Jewish people is to show just how much you hate Muslim people.
The judges would also have accepted “a shaved Fozzie Bear”.
Nooooo!!! Fozzie’s my favourite, and such a sweet guy. Bear. Whatever.
well, lemmy was special; he was not human but also a human in the best possible way…
