Has there ever been a web site with a mobile version, ever, that isn’t terrible?

Things I certainly would never want to do, according to mobile web site designers:

  • Zoom in/out.
  • Use half the features on the site.
  • Go to the page I was linked to, and not the home page.
  • See the page at all, and not some full screen ad.
  • Get the desktop version of the site, even when I select it.

I really can’t think of a single web site in existence where the mobile version isn’t an abomination.

Wikipedia is a great choice. I’ve still had to switch to the desktop
version occasionally, but the mobile version is clearly usable.

That is part of the “mobile spec” – go to the settings of your mobile browser and look under accessibility; there should be an option to force zoom.
