I mean, I hope it’s a criticism of that, but I also saw that he’s whinging about “SOB” gate on his twitter, too…
There are so many comments I hear from people who I am like, “You realize your ‘side’ is doing all of those things. You just described (insert goons name)'s actions”
They are either completely self unaware, or conniving hypocrites.
for the past 6 years my name of choice for them is the g.o.p. death cult. and over the past year they have moved into the realm of actual human sacrifice. in my hometown in texas, during the 2020 election, a group of them parked themselves in an empty lot the requisite distance from the main polling place with banners and billboard sized posters advertising the various candidates running for office. they had bullhorns through which they shouted campaign slogans and many of them were openly displaying long guns and handguns which is legal in my state. as i waited in line to vote i noted that the shouting through the bullhorn increased notably when people of color went to get into the line.
and greg abbott wants to allow armed “observers” to protect the sanctity of the ballott.
I live in Crenshaw’s district (in Montrose) where thankfully voting is way better than what you describe. The Harris County clerk and elections administrator have done really well the pst few years to help people vote despite the work of Abbott, Patrick, Crenshaw and the rest.
Unfortunately the district is so horribly gerrymandered, that work still can’t boot Crenshaw out on his ass yet. We need to keep trying
I don’t find this helpful, candidates and parties are 100% allowed to do what Dan Crenshaw did, there is no “legal hotwater” for him or Joaquin Castro or anybody else at that level
The law is aimed at nonpartisan county clerks and officials tasked with helping prople vote from trying to help people vote
It is absurd enough as it is! Without bringing up hypothetical one-sided enforcement scenarios that will never happen.
Just wait, the poll watcher stuff is going to be insane compared to this administrative chicanery.
But we’re not talking about what’s LEGAL in the actual sense, but about how the GOP uses the legal system to their favor in states where they dominate the legislature due to gerrymandering and voter suppression.
Have you SEEN the modern GOP? Really? Because they have no interest in the law anymore, except to use as a tool to ensure their own minority control. What in the past year and a half, much less the past few decades gives you ANY indication that they will not use laws like this in a way that political benefits them? At what point do we STOP giving them the benefit of the doubt? They’ve already tried to illegal overturn an election, including having a mob try to kill sitting members of congress! What more do they have to do before you’re convinced that they are not playing by the rules here?
“Democracy for me but not for thee!”
“the Texas law that bans election officials from sending mail-in ballot applications to registered voters who haven’t requested one.”
(Well, this resolves my confusion.) And, yeah, as above posters have said, TX DNC officials should just start revving up the presses, open up their wallet, and send out mail-in ballot applications to every registered Democrat.
You are giving TX Dems too little credit. The reason the Thugs are suppressing votes is because of all the creative things TX Dems did to help voters participate despite the pandemic: drive through voting, extended hours for shift workers, vote by mail to reduce disease transmission. I have faith they will keep fighting, so please stop crapping on them.
WTF are you talking about? A little over a year ago, Texas authorities utterly ignored people running a Biden campaign buss off the highway. They ignored Oathkeepers standing in front of polling places with ARs over their shoulders.
There’s nothing hypothetical about one-sided enforcement of election and voting rights in Texas.
But both sides are bad! The poor put-upon white people of Texas were triggered by the sight of a bus with scary words on it driving through their pure district! /s
Sadly wrong analysis. Crenshaw is not sending out unsolicited mail-in ballots - he’s asking people to request a mail-in ballot. Completely different and legal thing.
[edit] This is in reply to @norniron, not sure why that link failed…]
I didn’t write the OP, which really made it seem like he was sending these applications to people in his district, registered to his party, with notes stating the recipients should vote for him. Nowhere is it indicated any of the recipients solicited the applications.
From the linked linked article in the second paragraph:
U.S. Rep. Dan Crenshaw, R-Houston, is taking heat this week for sending out campaign mailers containing unsolicited mail-in ballot applications to voters who are 65 and older.
Emphasis added.
Normally, I wouldn’t do the [citation needed] thing, but since you’re trying to refute the OP and the original source cited by the OP, you really should back that up with something other than your own wit and charm.
Please let that be true!
