GOP senator admits Trump killed party's own border bill: "don't fix anything during the election"

And familiarity breeds contempt.

I’m surprised the bill even got that far. The 1% of both parties enjoy spending immigrant tax dollars directly on bombs and bullets instead of it going to social programs, and they also like the cheap labor for the industries they invest in. Oh yeah, and both sides can use immigration as a political division, so… Win, win, win for the 1%.

And trump was also explicitly stating that he tanked it at the time. I think the real issue here is the media’s short attention span and recall failure. If anyone would just hold him accountable… well, it probably wouldn’t matter, but seeing them continually act surprised is extremely frustrating.

“A lot of the senators are trying to say, respectfully, they’re blaming it on me. I say, that’s okay. Please blame it on me. Please.”

One of the few times his “a lot of xxx are saying” bullshit was actually true.

It takes some serious dedication to the both sides faction to act like things are still symmetrical between the Republicans and Democrats even now, on a topic where one specifically killed its own bill because its candidate that had tried to do seize control over the US government wanted to use it as a wedge issue and the other did…none of that.

I prefer the usage “when Donald Trump was president”.

Same with the arsehole I the article saying “President Trump said….” No such person exists. Ex president sure.

You’re surprised… and that’s why you made a flagrantly false equivalence?

I kind of like it as a subtle way of pointing out how many terms he’s had. Sort of like saying King John I of England (…and nobody wanted a second). I might start using it once we’ve made absolutely certain it’s ironic.

Let’s be clear here, I’m not saying she should be like Trump policy wise. But the polls say voters trust Trump on immigration and the economy. Why I don’t know. She needs to hammer it home, that he had nothing to do with the economy except made it worse, and that he was a disaster for immigration. Sure healthcare, human rights, SS she is strong but is that enough to win? Call Trump out on his lies and maybe people will remember how bad he was as a President.

Which is straight fucked up. They’ve very much forgotten what happened last time he was president.

She can do that and push her own policies, too. :woman_shrugging: It’s not an either/or here. Both messages can get through to the larger public who pay less attention to politics.

“Trump said don’t fix anything during the election”

Immediately following Trump’s win, he began campaigning for re-election 2020, and, after a brief pause to see if he’d be immediately jailed for attempted coup, has been running for election since then. He has never really stopped, which may partly explain why Republicans, even more than usual, are the party of imagining everything is unfixable.

You’re not the first to stumble on the reality that power attracts corrupt individuals ready to abuse the trust that voters placed in them for a little money.

On the other hand, fascism as a party platform can be one way for regular people to tell the two parties apart. The two parties are not completely identical and haven’t been so in this century to my best recollection.

(edit: fixed grammar)

That’s already been answered: the media trying to make this blowout into a close race.

We don’t call him King John I because there hasn’t been a John II. In the same way Trump can’t have had a first term as president until he has had a second term.

That's the joke

Just another of an incredibly long string of absolutely stupid things he has said over the years. He probably doesn’t know how complicated much of the world is because he has always had a snivelling cadre of enablers and grifters taking care of things for him.
