I absolutely cannot stand people like that. we go onto federal lands almost daily, and if you wanted to follow us, it would be like looking for the klingons when they are cloaked. We always pick up trash when we are out, so you could probably track us by following the cleanest trails. The only real trace we ever leave is little stacks of rocks. Not in places where anyone is ever likely to see them, but on top of peaks. My kids love to climb to the top of everything, as I did when I was younger. I always left a little cairn up there, so the next person, years or centuries from then, would know that they were not the first. Of course, usually there are tool flakes up there as some Ute kid probably had to stay there and watch for herd animals.
I am of course not talking about popular National Parks or maintained trails.
