“What’s So Funny about Truth, Justice, and the American Way?” (or in movie form Superman vs. The Elite) did a wonderful job of subverting Evil Superman (and the Grimdark age of comics) back when it was first getting started.

Blockquote This particular brand of creative bankruptcy stems from their own faulty understanding of the character’s central metaphor.

Yes AND as myths are part of the collective unconsciousness it’s probably fair to say that the general public isn’t too fond of people in power, so if Supes is power personified, maybe our myths are reflecting that.

FWIW no one has ever handled Superman better than Morrison, and all star Superman is probably one of the greatest comics ever made. (IMHO)

Grant Morrison’s “Supergods” is one of my favorite books of all time. I cannot recommend it enough if you’re interested in GM, comics, or myths in general.
