Let’s just let Jesus have the last word with this clod:

Oh sorry, I guess I got derailed that you were worried you were likely to get shot in America. And you aren’t.

You are even LESS likely to get shot a gay club. I am sure there are fights and an occasional shooting or stabbing here and there, but this is the first mass shooting I am aware of in like ever at a gay club. Used to be you might get rounded up by the cops and beaten, but back then it was also against the law in the UK, so you would have been screwed either way.

Today though I would say a gay club is probably one of the safer late night hangouts. Enjoy.

What’s the conservative version of “mansplaining in a patronizing tone?” (or is that redundant)

Actually, I live in Oakland. I probably have a far better reason to own a firearm for self-defense purposes than you do, really.

And, honey, I’m pretty sure I know a lot more gay and trans folks here in the Bay Area and my home in Seattle than you do. You don’t need to tell me about how their lives are.

No idea. I am not a conservative nor patronizing.

I live in East Palo alto. I hear gun shots once a week. It’s usually when the warriors win (or lose) so it doesn’t really bother me.

I have a co-worker from Australia and he thinks I live in Mad Max: Fury Road. I have to explain why that’s funny.

They’re brilliant, is what they are. I forget what they’re called but they allow you to wear thin gloves (rendering dexterity a moot concern) while protecting you from both cold and windchill. Very popular in the upper Midwest.

Agreed. A pole strikes me as a lightweight solution to preventing them from getting too close in the first place. An aluminum baseball bat is great; not needing to use it is even better.

Don’t they call that Cheap Labour Recruitment?

C’mon, gun enthusiasts—step it up. It’s not fair to expect @Mister44 to do this thing all on his own.

(Note: one or two are slight paraphrases.)

To be properly dismissive, you really have to word any such claim along those lines carefully.

Christian terrorist Eric Rudolph (the “Olympic Park Bomber”) bombed a lesbian nightclub in Atlanta, calling homosexuality an “aberrant lifestyle”. Five bar patrons were injured.

A fire was started in the stairway of a gay nightclub in Seattle. Suspect Musab Mohammaed Masmari had told a friend that “homosexuals should be exterminated”,

And there have been plenty of murders of people exiting gay nightclubs.

Wikipedia: History of violence against LGBT people in the United States

It’s worth mentioning that there was another incident today: A man was arrested on his way to the LA Pride with a cache of guns, ammunition and explosives.

My friend - the world is not cruel. People are. A person did this. The world did not.

Keep it cool, calm, and on-topic.

Yeah it can be both. What makes me angry is the ERASURE in the media of the fact that it was a gay nightclub and that his own father thinks homophobia and not religion caused the attacks.

Because if it’s against gays, people that hate on gays can’t appropriate and assimilate it, call for restrictions on rights in the name of a false sense of security and moral panic etc. If it’s against “America” it’s better to justify their own bigotry and they can be free to keep on hating on the gays.

This is the point that hurts me to the point of weeping. It’s like even when gays are being killed they can’t ever win.

Actually, I think quite a few of us were discussing how our culture and his family upbringing were an integral part in his behavior.

nah. just think. needs gasoline, low visibility from inside, freaking hot in the summer. plus, there’d be a whole subplot about losing one’s keys. too much trouble.

now spears are an excellent idea. i can only assume the show runners feel they look as silly on screen as a bunch of people furiously pedalling to safety riding atop their decked out cargo bikes.

It would be nice if this at least leads to an easing of the recent legislative attacks on transgender people specifically and the broader efforts to keep persecuting LGBT people (for instance Roy Moore’s ongoing refusal to allow marriage licenses in Alabama) but that’s probably too much to hope.

I’m pretty sure that Spanish Fly isn’t available in pharmacies, with or without a prescription. Perhaps you’re thinking of something else.

The more accurate way to word that in this country is: “did she TRY to file charges or get a restraining order?” Success in this area is not high.

What pains me is the erasure of the hate crime against gays to profit from it as an “new 9/11“. Conservative assholes saying” this is an attack against America" (er… By an American) when it was an attack against people that prefer kissing others with the same gender, that he hated to the point of acting on it.
