Handgun looks like a smartphone

Exactly. This comes along just as it is sinking into the skulls of some cops that the public actually is allowed to film them. They - and no doubt many judges and juries - will use this as a reason to confiscate and/or destroy cell phones.

I suspect it has always been that way. For every visionary explorer/inventor/economist/sociologist/whatever, there are a hundred or more regressives, fearful of any change, who keep finding excuses to hold everyone back.

Society as a whole only advances when things get so bad that it has no choice.

Always what I think of when people get a weirdly mastrubatory with guns.

(And yes, I know it’s weird Sean Bean is not dying in this scene.)

In Russia, knife is gun.

Here goes the “don’t bring a knife to a gunfight” advice.

Yes. The silver lining to that is… Once all the regressives realize that the time for change has come, is passing… Oh my lord it’s almost gone…

That’s when we FINALLY start to do something as a society…

And those visionaries and explorers and all the rest are there… Waiting with hundreds of different kinds of solutions.

Then the deciders pick the solutions that are least disruptive, align with their values the best, and societies expectations, etc, etc…

It’s quite the dog and pony show… When society finally decides to do something.

But it’s generally selecting from hundreds of possible solutions, not one or two.

So we end up with a catdog mix of the worst aspects of all the options, determined by the fears and feelings of the plebes…

Um… what I’m talking about is way earlier in the process than that.

The plebs aren’t there for the initial discussions. They would freak out. Inevitably many solutions involve throwing plebs under busses of all kinds.

The influential folks with a voice in these discussions are the ones who decide the future direction of whatever.

By the time it ever gets to the pleb address system… these days… there’s like… 2-3 similar solutions. All involve making sure that the deciders now stay the deciders going forward. Then other values come into play.

Take… Trump’s wall as an example. I’m sure in Trump world, his Trump friends and Trump contractors would do it.

He’s gonna announce some big infrastructure project with government funded labor in all likelihood… and use tariffs on imports to pay for it.

The plebs get to pick between 3-4 solutions… a teeny subset of all the possible solutions.

I think its at this point we take it into government… and through that sausage factory what comes out is a catdog mix of the worst aspects of all opinions, determined by the fears and feelings of the plebs (or… by whoever determined the fears and feelings of the plebs for them), and then everyone attaches their own pet projects to it, groups get in there to attach riders to important bills so their pet projects get funded without scrutiny… and all the rest of the stuff that makes us all so very angry…

But the plebs don’t see the actual decisions taking place. Its like the business world. By the time everyone’s together for the big decision making meeting, everyone has already gone around and planned their strategies and positions before hand. The meeting where they discuss is a big play, and the decisions they make and conclusions they come to happen before everyones in a room together.

Oh good.

Skeptic is generally correct. Without any need for federal proper licensing you can make any general pistol or rifle you can buy off the shelf or a primitive version of the same as long as you aren’t:

-doing so for commercial purposes (personal use good, sales to others bad)
-making fully automatic versions of the same
-making sound suppressing versions of the same
-making a disguised firearm
-making a firearm that is otherwise prohibited
