Happy Mutants food and drink topic (Part 1)

Surely the best cup of tea made with a teabag is the one you remember is next to the kettle 10 minutes after you poured it.

On the “everything is better if you stick a fried egg on it” principle, I made panzanella. And stuck a fried egg on it.

Totally worth it. It’s super early for panzanella- something I associate with late summer in February- but I found some really good Black Russian tomatoes which I’ve grown before but never seen for sale. Great flavour.

Last night we made 6 chocolate chunk cookies.
We ate 2 each and Laurie said we should save the other 2 for breakfast.
My first thought was put an egg in it.
With a proper hot sauce it might just work?

So, right hot sauce… I love the citrus in habanero, and it goes welll with fruit based hot sauces, mango, pineapple, and so forth. Scotch bonnet stuff can be similar in style. Could that work with cookies and eggs?

Yes! Many people do not want to try the Scotch Bonnet fearing the heat. But what they are missing is the flavor. We make a Mango Scotch Bonnet hot sauce that is sweet, fruity, and just enough heat to make your nose run, in a good way.

Maybe this could do the number on my sinuses…

I love habanero or scotch bonnet peppers with mango. we grow habs and mangoes just for this (our tree is young yet, only got 5 tom atkins variety this year).
a pound of habaneros, one whole mango - the TA var is large - one yellow onion, juice from four lemons and 1-1/2 cups carrot juice, whizzed in the blender then simmered until the ‘rawness’ of the onion has mellowed, the sauce thickens a bit and all the flavors come together. it works very nicely and is a wonderful thing to dip fresh boiled and chilled Key West pink shrimp into.
but your face will burn so good!

yours looks just like it and I just know it is good, too!

Trust me… It works.:hot_pepper::nose:

Oh man! Carrots and Onions! Yes I can see that will work. I must try that on our next batch.
Thank you.

That sounds fantastic. I’ve got some habenero seedlings in to make sauce with. Hadn’t got much further in my thinking than “carrots sound good”, inspired by my favourite store-bought sauce.

Up to this point, I was getting flashbacks to early maths classes …

I was sure the next bit was going to be something like:

“If Jerry and Charlie join us for breakfast and Jerry would like half a cookie and Laurie isn’t prepared to share, into how many pieces do I have to cut the remaining cookie? How many cuts do I need to make? Provide a drawing.”

Your suggestion of having an egg with it came as a significant relief.

Also yes to the hot sauce, obviously. Something quite zingy and fruity.

ETA: the habanero sauce sounds/looks perfect.

Hah! That’s so funny. Thanks.
BtW, when I thought of ‘put a fried egg on it’ I kind of pictured this:

An odd question, but why no lime?

limes work, too! key limes are fantastic, but a lot of work to get enough juice.
besides, limes go in my gin and tonic!
