I love this mix of admiration and insult

you can’t help feeling the American spirit in it, the optimistic, cheerful lack of introspection

Americans sometimes call out, “Love the shirt!” The ones who do this usually have that “I love ketchup” look about them.

A little self-deprecatory humor going on here, but you can’t help feeling the American spirit in it, the optimistic, cheerful lack of introspection that says…

Can you engage in self-deprecatory humor without introspection?

“I find it interesting that one of the companies that distribute these shirts is none other than Heinz…”

I mean…it’s a shirt all about using lots of ketchup. Why wouldn’t a company that sells ketchup distribute it?

If it was a shirt about how ketchup sucks then it might be interesting.
