I know what you mean. After my dad got out of the USAF post-Korea, there were some times there just wasn’t much $ after rent. Mother could make 2 weinies feed all 5 of us by making milk gravy (using canned milk, it was cheaper), and cutting the weinies up into little disks into the gravy, which was served to us over toasted old white bread (cheaper at the bread outlet). Good times.
