…
Gorillafication?
Just to be clear, J.D. Vance did not fuck a gorilla sofa.
… that we know of.
The future is bright and hairy
Now mount a camera and some flamethrowers on a gorilla couch and use it for surveillance, law enforcement, and brush clearing.
Bored Ape Living Room Collection.
No.
Apeshit.
(And if anything is possible in China, can we order a Winnie the Pooh sofa?)
ETA It might also be Gorilla Goo.
OK. For someone intelligent, but who actively tries to minimize their internet exposure, could you explain this to me. Who made what and posted it where? Was this speculative advertising… “if we advertise it, they will come… and then we’ll make it?”
Remember when the science fiction dream of AI was a benign overmind trying to make life more pleasant and easy for humanity?
Dream come true!
You certainly didn’t inadvertently forget the /s tag there, did you.
Nightmares are also dreams?
Found one. Not as luxurious as the others, but it’s a start. Can I order one to be shipped to Xi Jinping?
The best I can tell, someone thought “wouldn’t it be neat to have a sofa in the form of a gorilla?” In the before times, it would have stopped there, maybe with a hand-drawn illustration.
Now, however, the person asked an “AI” to do the job of creating a realistic image/video of the sofa. They posted it and gave the impression it was/should be a physical item. Others, prompted by social media engagement algorithms, liked the idea and created their own images. The “AI” – as it does (see also the prevalence of cats and dogs in hallucinations) – concluded that this is something people want. A flood of ads for the fictional product ensued.
The last step was someone in the advanced sector of the late-stage JIT fast-fashion neoliberal globalist economy actually wanting the physical item, and someone in the developing sector willing and able to manufacture and sell it. And here we are, with China’s Sun Yao / Foshan Furniture offering a full-sized gorilla sofa to Westerners with more money than taste.
tldr; – Christ, what a bunch of arseholes.
Someone somewhere in China is working on a Shrimp Jesus statue.
In other words the AI was heading blindly along the path of paperclip maximizing when someone substituted in a gorilla couch.
Next time we might not be so lucky.
AI generating articles for page views about an AI generated “gorilla” couch…
Are we just trying to give credence to the dead internet idea? At this point I’m not even sure who is a real commenter or not…and of course AI would say that.
