I thought beats were fine (I automatically check all haikus–bad teacher habit). I think the hedgehog meets the nature aspect, too, as I believe haikus can be either seasonal or nature based.
I think it depends how you pronounce ‘poem.’ I’ve had a couple ciders now so my syllable counts are wobbly and I’m no longer a reliable textual critic.
So I’m going to not do poetry again for a bit:
