A 46-year-old deputy mayor of Helsinki was caught illegally spray-painting graffiti in a train tunnel

Maybe, as Deputy Mayor, he could have set up some graffiti walls, or something

I like it. Banksy he ain’t but none the less it’s not bad and sure better than acres of bland white walls. If they take any action against him they should sentence him to art classes.

Locally, we have found one of the best tools for fighting against graffiti is to commission murals on walls taggers are attracted to. We also have a large rock in a public space that is allowed to be painted and repainted ad nauseam without any penalties. :woman_shrugging:

Has it ever been tried: put up a 50 m wide by 3 meter tall wall in a semi-public place where graffiti artists are allowed, from dusk till dawn, to legally paint all they want to see if it reduces the overall graffiti/tagging levels around a city?

Helsinki had a 100m wide 3m tall graffiti wall in a public place.

They will destroy that skatepark next.

Why is it that adults don’t remember being kids and try to accommodate them in some fashion? I also know that there is still an allure to “doing something that could get you into trouble”, but FFS no city is ever going to get rid of graffiti/tagging, no train company is ever going to prevent their trains from being graffitied/tagged, so why not just corral it as best as you can?

I know I’d rather see a viaduct with some color than just grey concrete as far as the eye can see.
