Facial recognition really is a lurking horror, I think. That ups the ante a hundredfold, and adds horrific new potentials to all the other intrusive techs.

Maybe we finally HAVE invented cameras that steal our souls.


So the lesson is that if you want to shield your identity from the authorities while you’re engaging in civil disobedience STOP WITH THE SELFIES ALREADY.

Sure, but let’s say you also want to document the abuses of the authorities towards your civil disobedience. You’re probably going to catch one or five of your fellow protesters in the process of doing so, no matter how hard you try. But I think that those records still have value. If no one was recording those kind of things, the Hong Kong protest stories probably would have not caught as much attention internationally.
