"Here There Be Nerds:" Fan Debates

Looks like there’s an article on this too (because of course there is) http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/inconsistencies/voyager-crew.htm

And I’m wrong, the number of crew members seen is somewhat reasonable, though the estimates for how many there are vary and don’t keep up with the number of people who die on screen. Janeway says there’s 152 at the end of Season 1.

We killed time waiting in line decoding what all the signage said based on context (thus attracting the attention of the aforementioned trooper).

One sign near a drinking fountain says “WARNING THIS WATER IS NOT SAFE FOR CONSUMPTION BY MOST LIFE FORMS DRINK WITH CAUTION.” It appears to be connected to a tank of suspiciously grimy water, and if you take a sip a dianoga eye pops up out of it to peek at you.

One thing I liked about the Battlestar Galactica reboot was how they opened each episode stating the exact number of human survivors so the stakes felt more significant, especially after a big event killed off a bunch of people.

I’m slightly concerned that a whole generation of kids growing up riding Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run will have a completely wrong idea of the meaning of the word “smuggler.” Despite the attraction name and numerous mentions of the word throughout the experience, the mission you embark on totally isn’t a “smuggling” job. More of a robbery or caper. When I asked my kids what they thought smugglers do after riding that ride, they definitely had the wrong idea. But I get it. Solo was a famous smuggler, and it’s a friendlier sounding term than robber or thief.

That’s because the coaxium heist was just a cover for the REAL mission that most people didn’t know about because they were too busy flying the ship to notice Chewbacca frantically unloading stolen droid parts in the back of the cargo hold.

It’s my understanding that the Disney Parks app becomes a datapad in Galaxy’s Edge and can translate the signage and graffiti if you point it at it.

Pfft. If I wanted a machine to do the translation for me I’d buy a protocol droid.

Just wait until they learn what a pirate actually is.

D&D skipped Comic-Con q&a.

SHAME! :bell:

Well it’s not like Disney tries to keep that a secret. It’s all spelled out pretty clearly in the song:

Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate’s life for me
We pillage plunder, we rifle and loot
Drink up me 'earties, yo ho
We kidnap and ravage and don’t give a hoot
Drink up me 'earties, yo ho

Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate’s life for me
We extort and pilfer, we filch and sack
Drink up me 'earties, yo ho
Maraud and embezzle and even highjack
Drink up me 'earties, yo ho

Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate’s life for me
We kindle and char and in flame and ignite
Drink up me 'earties, yo ho
We burn up the city, we’re really a fright
Drink up me 'earties, yo ho

We’re rascals and scoundrels, we’re villains and knaves
Drink up me 'earties, yo ho
We’re devils and black sheep, we’re really bad eggs
Drink up me 'earties, yo ho

Yo, ho, yo ho, a pirates life for me
We’re beggars and blighters and ne’er do-well cads
Drink up me 'earties, yo ho
Aye, but we’re loved by our mommies and dads
Drink up me 'earties, yo ho
Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate’s life for me

So here’s a fairly nuanced view on a movie I will personally not be watching, but for any DC fans out there:

Yuck… it’s sounding like the kind of film a lot of us feared it would be, namely: incel revenge fantasy. I get their point is people shouldn’t judge yet before seeing it but their own review seems to be proving those critics correct.

So the Joker’s driving motivation is a deep-rooted toxic insecurity in his own masculinity?
