In other words: “we’re not sure the Russians and Chinese and North Koreans know just how good our systems are, and we’re not sure we want to let the cat out of the bag 'cause we don’t trust those guys. So we needed time to figure out how to say it. Yeah, we told the USCG right away, but they weren’t supposed to tell anybody else how we knew about it.”

The energy released by the implosion was likely equivalent to about 50 pounds of TNT. I want the US Navy to be able to detect things like that.

Public sensors in Newfoundland and Bermuda also detected something at around the time contact was lost.

Cool, but unless one knows for a fact that the sound heard was the implosion of that particular craft and that everyone on board is dead, one doesn’t stop looking for it because one could be wrong.
