How America bought and sold racism, and why it still matters

Ever since visiting Seattle Art Museum in the spring, I’ve been haunted by the Kara Walker silhouette “Monkey’s Uncle” It’s the perfect antipode to the horrifying racism of these caricatures.

ETA: “perfect” in that it uses the caricature to turn against itself, exposing the horrifying racism of the “americana”
