Not as good without the uranium.

I first heard of Fiestaware when I came to the US as a postdoc to work in a lab. We had to take a radiation safety training class and the instructor used the uranium-glazed dishes as props to demonstrate the use of a Geiger counter. At the time I was disappointed to find out that most Fiesta ware is not radioactive, but now, some years later, we eat most of our meals from it and I am glad they were able to find non-radioactive alternatives.
