How minimalism brought me freedom and joy

Yeah, it kind of reminded me of an article I read a couple of weeks ago: http://jezebel.com/i-love-my-children-and-i-owe-them-so-much-money-1765675044

At first it seems like the poor guy is struggling under an oppressive and bureaucratic system, but as you read it you see he’s trying to “live his dream” of writing and didn’t try to adjust the order until it became a problem. Between the lines he’s living off his “true believer” girlfriend and not just getting a damn job to pay for these kids he so loves.

I have … many comments on that article, as someone who is still trying to collect a ton of support arrears for a child who is now nearly 19.

Too free and joyful to support his children, huh?

That’s male entitlement for you. Stick mom with the costs and the parenting and also claim to be the human incarnation of Jonathan Livingston Seagull.

Big corporate culture can be the same way: Externalize liabilities, grab the gains, and brag about being a smart, efficient disruptor. Infants.

The ex was likely never “convenient”, either.

Y’know when an addict complains of their terrible life as a sinning drunk, but it comes off so romantically? This guy is more than a dry drunk about material things, and this is a revival huckster show to fleece the rubes.

This is a good example

An EDAR is a four-wheeled unit, based on a cart design that provides security for belongings, privacy and protection from the elements. During the day, the EDAR is a compact portable unit with sturdy wheels and waterproof protection. The steering is maneuverable and there is a brake and locking mechanism which ensures the unit will not move on its own.

At night, the EDAR opens up easily into “night mode” and provides a comfortable sleeping unit. Unfolding the unit allows it to lock in place as the flat metal base extends. The metal base has a removable mattress and fire resistant cover, providing tent-like shelter. The unit is waterproof, windproof and helps protect from the elements. There is a window that provides light, ventilation and a view of the surrounding area. By refolding the unit into “day mode”, the EDAR quickly returns to its compact design and can be pushed around as a cart for use during the day.

We currently have units serving homeless individuals in Southern CA, and in the communities of Phoenix, AZ, Denver, CO and Camden, NJ.

Here is a different example

…We now have 13 hexayurt models which have been built and tested and are suitable for a variety of purposes. The shelters share a common feature: they can be made from standard industrial 4’x8’ (1.2m x 2.4m) panels from materials like plastic, polyiso insulation, plywood, OSB, sandwich panels and cardboard. In disaster relief applications the hexayurt can cost less than a tent, and be constructed in far larger quantities than tent supplies allow. …

Everyone should go live in a bus for a bit. And take acid.

If only acid was an easy thing to get ahold of. You gotta know the right people!

Ask that dude who lives in a converted bus down by the river. He’ll know someone.

I read earlier that he used to be a hedge fund manager. Knowing that fact, listing any specific crimes he’s committed are just unnecessary detail.

At any rate, I for one am glad to have my knee-jerk internet hothead reaction of pure loathing for this bastard to be vindicated. Thank God! Now the next fifty or so times I react to some post or article with an arbitrary snap judgment, I’ll know in my heart that I am right. Yay!

Apparently, there was a big bust a few years ago that hit the largest lab in the country while they were moving shop. Completely shut down the entire pipeline for years.

Nah, like everything else, it just got outsourced to China.

All this minimalism and no Ab Fab references yet?

BBS derail guarantees: guns, germergoat, typography, photography, bicycles, and the lack of decent acid these days. Every time…

I don’t mean to be sterotypical… and I didn’t do it on this thread… but I totes could have talked about male privilege and sexism and feminism. Just didn’t want to be left out of the derail list!
