How much can you carry on a bicycle?

Exactly.

ā€œIn Vietnamā€™s long war for independence, first against longtime colonial power France and later against the United States and its allies, many factors contributed to the ultimate victory for Communist forces. At its core was the iron will and tenacity of millions of Vietnamese who had to rely on relatively primitive means to combat adversaries wielding state-of-the-art war-making technology. Among the low-tech meansā€”often derisively dismissed by their foesā€”that proved critical to the outcome of their war with the French and, to a lesser extent, the United States, was the simple bicycle.ā€ (for transporting supplies, food, materiel, wounded soldiers, etc.)

ā€œA record was set at Dien Bien Phu with a single bicycle carrying a load of 724 pounds.ā€

Iā€™ve met him. Heā€™s a total jerk.

Syd Mead is a brilliant designer who needs to get out more. My city bike has a front rack (light loads only), a rear rack, a folding side basket on one side of the rear rack, a folding plastic crate that clips on top of the rear rack, grocery panniers, and front panniers, plus I aspire to own one of these babies one day, so that I can go shopping for medium-sized appliances and flatpack furniture without a motor vehicle. Iā€™ll call Syd when I want my starship designed.
