BTW, in what universe would a student ID requirement create a “no drugs” scene?
Australian undergrads spend most of their time transitioning between drunk, stoned and tripping. You could probably get the bar doorman high just by making him lick the residue off all of the student IDs.
Is it just that this bar manager is as stupid as he is racist, or are US college students actually different in this respect? Has the DEA terrified them all into puritanism?

Could be. I’m not in the U.S. and I have the feeling it’s less of an issue here (though probably selective enforcement of old fashioned laws happens a lot. The public inebriation law should probably be canceled/adapted. Though I despise the drunk students bellowing in the night, so that’s a bit of a personal sore point).
