One of my favorite toys as a kid was a similar box my uncle made using LEDs (it being the 70’s, only red, green, and yellow were available) and several buttons. He updated the light box model for my kids in the last few years with pink and blue LEDs and different types of buttons. He’ll get a kick out of seeing this.

I made a Light Emitting Toy for my younger brother when I was around 8. A 4x4 array of toggle switches controlling a 4x4 array of LEDs. And by “I made” I mean I came up with the idea and my dad did all the hard work. Still proud of the name I came up with, though.
