Among my very favorite books, worth reading annually for decades:

Hell’s Angels: The Strange and Terrible Saga of the Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs

Not just a book – an essay – a brilliant study of post-war America, rich in references, ideas, and insights.

This is the work of a young, (relatively) clear-headed Thompson – a real journalist, and a fighter of a journalist at that.

Should be mandatory reading for American Studies at the high school level – give those bright young malcontents something to chew on …
