Wasn’t the anarchist’s cookbook on every third BBS you dialed up in the '80’s? (Most of my friends back then already knew better and headed for the college library chem section.)
“When I was young, we did not have those fancy internets. We had to get our explosive recipes from the National Technical Library.” – me
I not only made pipe bombs as a hobby when I was a teenager in the 70s, I had a job making them for the US Air Force in the 1980s.
Well, OK, technically I was working for a defense subcontractor, not directly for the USAF, and they were actually fighter ejection seat gas generators, but whenever the casings failed on the test stand they were exactly like pipe bombs. Piece of pipe with threaded ends, two end caps, and a small hole… large boom.
It seems to me that if we categorize people on what they are capable of, rather than by what they actually do, we automatically make every human a member of category “brutal murderer”.
If you go into the basement of a pre-school with a 50 gallon drum of bleach, and suspend a bucket of ammonia over it, and set up a candle to burn through a string releasing the bucket, you’ll have time to leave the school before lethal clouds of corrosive gas enter the ventilation system. Then you can chain the doors shut from the outside. If it’s a big public school, the bleach and ammonia will already be there; get yourself a job as a janitor and it’ll be easey-peasey to set up. But you don’t want to do that, so the fact that you can do that is not a problem… having the capacity and tools to commit a crime is not in itself morally equivalent to committing a crime.
and opens the very slippery slope of thoughtcrimes - something we as humanity abused too often and should have learnt to avoid a long time ago
The primary ammo I use was manufactured in 1953. I bought an insane amount about 5 years ago when I found it at a good price. I do keep everything in a controlled-humidity vault, but I would have to assume that it might have spent a decade or two in a less than ideal environment. I have found it to be perfectly reliable. But your experience may vary.
Yet I can’t buy more than two packages of Claritin at a time, and need to show my Driver’s License with every purchase.
