The The?

Tsk. They need a new header image.

Well, the image wasn’t created by the bot, the bot was created in response to the image.

It’s unlikely that any normal human would spot the issue anyway, outside of grammar nerds, but that’s a tautology.

Must be the the same copy editors these guys had…

Replying about the coloured hearts:

Okay, so I didn’t watch the video and I don’t know if this is some kind of joke, but each heart is composed of light and dark bands. The purple ones are rendering colours #783bcc and #87009a while the yellowy-brown ones are rendering colours #544907 and #b5c56a.

Whatever someone did to create this image, the result is an image with completely different coloured hearts.

I really liked Dredd a lot more than I thought I would and felt bad I missed it in the theaters. They got the feel of a Judge Dredd story nailed down. My only and very minor quibble was the toning down of the comic book look of Mega-City One but I did appreciate the more functional looking uniforms.

@OtherMichael: Thanks for sharing the link about Son of Saul. History will repeat if people collectively forget what the Germans did.

Yom HaShoah begins tonight, remember those murdered and persecuted by the Nazis.

Sir David Attenborough?

Much as I like the guy’s programmes, that’s really naff. Naming stuff after not-dead people is a bit weird anyway, but if you were going to do that, why not name it after Ranulph Fiennes or John Blashford-Snell? At least they didn’t call it the Bear Grylls, I guess.

Lovely stuff, I particularly like the attention to industrial detail with the gantries and catwalks and cables and whatnot, but his portrayal of women is typically problematic.

To clarify, although both men and women are passive observers of machines, I’ve only seen women as captives, men are quite often weapon-toting aggressors, and while there is at least one woman with a weapon, she’s also showing off cleavage and some tight-fitting clothing. Male observers are clothed differently, but there’s at least one woman in a small bikini.

COME ON.

SF can do better than this. Although this is much better than the softcore-cheese of Royo, I’ll say that.

So I can flee if it comes to that. Just will have to completely start over though.

Four weeks later…apparently the new host of QI is Sandi Toksvig. Was announced ages ago, it appears. Just chanced on a mention of it.

re: Porn Addiction

I didn’t listen to the podcast but I read the linked essay. It ends with this:

‘We live in a patriarchy, where women are fundamentally objectified. We shouldn’t be surprised to see it play out in pornography.’

From Chyng Sun, a researcher at NYU. I remember hearing Joanna Angel (a porn producer and actress) say something very similar years ago. She was asked if porn objectified women and she said that all products of culture are reflections of that culture and so it should be no surprise a misogynist culture produces misogynist pornography.

The essay almost mentions the “NoFap” movement which apparently has about 150,000 people in it. It’s crazy to think that kind of thing still happens. I wonder if they all eat Kellogg’s Corn Flakes.

Well, doesn’t that bring back particular times and places?

D**n, I loved that organ-pulse. Still do.

Hunh: the melody prominently features an organ riff lifted from the Deep Purple rendition of the song “Hush”. 1

When this song was on the radio, I’d start mashing the two together in my head.

Sort of reminds me of Robin Williams “Cocaine is God’s Way of telling you you’re making too much money!” An Uber ride to a random location?
