@daneel: BBC is missing the obvious reader - Cumberbatch. Can’t stand to look at him, but he’s got a voice made of velvet.
Poor, poor Massachusettes Massachusets Massachoosettes Massachusetts
Look at Ohio. Just look at it!

Why do three states have such difficulty spelling gray, and why would that word even come up so often in Oklahoma, South Dakota, and Michigan?

The correct spelling of Hawai’i’s word is not what they say it is, it’s boutonniere.
And don’t go to Alaska with that Hawaii spelling
It’s the color of our sky far too much of the time?
Well, sure, I’d buy that in some places, but are Oklahoma and South Dakota really confusing British and American spelling of that word very often?
And others are simplified from words like diarrhoea, ordinary and leipreachán. Incidentally, how do we know that the Californians, Idahoans and others weren’t trying to spell dessert?
LOL!
The U.S. version of English does spell some borrowed words the original way, and some not. It is a very confusing language because of that. We almost always drop any accent marks, though.
Yeah, almost always. How helpful for people trying to learn the language!
It’s just naïveté to imagine that English would be straightforward, even if we could coördinate our spelling rules. Maybe they could find a helpful guide in their hôtel.
That is why I was nearly an adult before I learned that our surname properly written, has an accent mark in it. Weird.
I like this video, both because cycling is cool and because it avoids the mistake of a lot of representations of people with disabilities that end up being inspiration porn and dehumanising the person.
Incidentally, while I was trying to remember the term I learned that inspiration porn and sympathy porn are very different things.
Have you seen this thing that looks like a gif, but runs smoother and has sound?
Continuing the discussion from Have you seen THIS?:
I guess I never will now!
I always wanted to, vaguely.
There are better options to go to. Sadly I am coming up blank for anything local to Seattle right now.
So, you had seen that, is what you are saying?
I agree with him that if you are angry because the book appears to be nonsense then you are being an idiot. I would describe my reaction to the description of that book as more awed.
