Finally, a couple of visitors!
Still hadn’t seen any larvae this season.
Saw one of those blue ones this AM.
Friendly little guys.
The blue one is a spicebush swallowtail. I saw a bunch of these on a riverbank a couple weeks ago. They are gorgeous, especially the underwings.
They have a somewhat fearsome-looking larva. I found one on the ground last summer - I might’ve posted it here?
But I don’t think it’s as fearsome as this, which I just found on the ground:
Where are you?
Wuppertal! Closest I’ve ever been to there is Köln. Looks like I really should visit sometime. Lovely!
Several years ago, after the air-conditioner was replaced, we had a problem with mice and bats in the basement until I foamed the hell out of possible entry points.
Watching bats fly around the basement was pretty amazing, but I was never able to catch them and release them outside.
Today I was doing some decluttering, and I think we don’t need the box of dried bats.
Yeesh! Be careful…
Several years dead, but gloves and mask.
Hey, Kids! Try our new Box o’ Dried Bats, from the makers of Box o’ Dried Rats! It’s part of a nutritious breakfast!
The best way is not to catch them, but to make a dark corridor to the outside. You can do it in stages, and remember to turn off the porch light for the final bit.
Looks they could have used a Legend brand door. If it keeps out the floods, maybe it would keep out the bats!
You should!
And if you do, let me show you around.
Send them my way, I need wing of bat for some curses I am whipping up to direct towards some GOP governors
and we need them to come pollinate our dragon fruit cactus!
the one up the ancient tamarind tree goes 20 meters up, blooms twice a year, yet no fruit. old timers say the bats have diminished due to mosquito control and habitat encroachment.
we are trying bat boxes, but they have to come back
