Yellow-crowned night heron, I believe. (Nyctanassa violacea)
Not in its usual habitat, and we would seem to be right at the edge of its usual range.
ETA: I’d never seen one & had to look it up (ordinarily we’d see great blue or green herons, but near some water, which this wasn’t) . At first I thought this might be a yard pet.

Too many names.
I did not know scooters are still a thing in our city and I wonder, do they call the tow truck for them?
First one I’ve seen in the wild here in the “smartest city in Alabama”. Dude must have just taken delivery because he was driving it in the rain!

Wow. Two sides of the country at the same time! Moments ago I saw my very first one in the wild in Los Angeles County:
Well, turns out the conservation folks need to get the state trooper dive team out to lasso that boat, and those guys don’t work on Saturdays. So I won’t get to document the recovery. Oh well!
