FWIW, I’ve been using iMazing and FileApp Pro to do an end run around iTunes for at least a decade now. I’ve got hundreds of old CDs ripped at high-bitrate in the 90s and 00s using EAC/LAME on Windows. Huge piles of folders just slide over into the iPhone in minutes, all orderly and satisfying like magnetic goo or skittles melting.
