I first got wind of this as a kid, from tge gilligans island episode S01E15. But it wasnt until the 90s I read that hed finally come out.

The Economist had a great obituary for him when he passed away a few years ago:

Based on some other reading I learned that Onoda-san was a graduate of the Imperial Army’s Intelligence School

Being the history buff that I am, I had to figure out where the Nakano School was located. All thats left is a couple of cenotaph type memorials located on a hard to get to part of the Nakano Police Hospital
