Yeah, after the rise of the Tea Party and Republican governors’ rejection of ACA Medicare expansion, it became really clear that we are witnessing a bifurcation of social services between GQP and sane states that would only really result in drastically worse outcomes for residents of GQP states and increasing quality of life for the latter. trump just threw kerosene on that fire and created the sense among regressive that they’re at the forefront of a righteous culture war to be waged on their own neighbors (eta: should read exacerbated; it was already deeply entrenched before trump). They love to crow about a coming civil war, which I’m not discounting, but what I don’t think many people consider is that the original Civil War was not physically fought state-to-state, but within the regressive states themselves except for a few terrorist actions and sabotage. The people of these states will be starved, ignored medically and educationally, spend their august years in agony and then have to witness chaos and violence at their doorstep while the rest of the world simply keeps on moving. Does anyone really think that Mississippi would ever have a chance of changing policy in New England? You and whose army?

Along the same lines (addressed rhetorically to the secessionists):
Do you know what it takes to be a country? What tax base do you have to maintain roads and infrastructure? Apart from Texas, most red states receive more money from the federal government than they pay in. Even assuming the USA allows you to retain your non-nuclear weapons, do you have the resources to maintain a military? Ships, tanks, planes, jeeps, radar, guns, ammo, professional soldiers – this all requires a lot of money to acquire, maintain, fix, and operate. Who is going to ally themselves with you, should Mexico (or the US, or Canada, or Colombia, or Brazil, or China…) decide to invade you and take your territory?
Who do you have that can negotiate treaties with foreign countries, especially free trade treaties now that you’re no longer part of NAFTA, CAFTA, WTO, the UN, and the European trade union? Who’s going to negotiate your open skies treaties? Who is going to build your embassies at $10 - $100 Million a pop? What about passports? How quick can you print those up once you’ve been recognized as a country by foreign powers (which could take years)? Who is going to support you if the US exerts pressure to not recognize you? What do you think they’ll want in return?
Are you going to print your own currency, or tether your economy to the US dollar? What does your economy produce that the rest of the world is eager to buy? Or will you run up a ruinous trade deficit? Who is going to lend you money, and what sovereign guarantee do you have to secure the financing? What legal protections will you have in place to assure investors that they won’t be wasting their money in your country?
And this is just the tip of the iceberg.
Achieving “Freedom” is the easy part. The hard part is everything else that makes a country a country, as opposed to an administrative unit (city, county, state, unincorporated village) part of a greater whole.

We need an ally group of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Christian Scientists, and Faith Tabernacle Congregationalists to push for laws in all states that deny all medical care (or at least, anything to do with blood) for any patient, no matter their religious beliefs.
Because that’s what this is. You don’t believe in getting a blood transfusion or having your bone set by a doctor? Fine. But don’t tell me I can’t.
