Japanese town installs black scrim to block view of Mount Fuji

Give people a framed view, like this one of the Waitakere Ranges southwest of Auckland, New Zealand. Gets the tourists a place to take a picture in a designated area, and is a form of visual permission and direction to take a photo, instead of a sign which few appear to be bothered to read.

Isn’t the one you shoot actually yours, thanks to copyright and all? I kind of like having my own pictures of things knowing I can do whatever I want with them.

Yes it is, but that’s not why people do it. A picture you take is yours yours, even if it’s identical to 100 others taken by 100 other people, because when you look at it, it will remind you of the time you were there to take it.

Mt Fuji is so large you can see it from over 20 miles away in most directions.

I climbed it back almost 30 years ago and it was crowded then… I can’t even imagine how bad it must be now.
