I’m no expert in Japanese constitutional matters, but the sources cited say it was a particular district court, not the Supreme Court of Japan, as implied in the boing boing headline.

Great news! And from a rather unexpected place, Japan is rather conservative after all.
Altho I’m genuinely surprised that Japan made the news and I’m not face-palming.
For context: last time I read about Japan, it was a minor scandal about the risque scenes of middle schoolers changing in an otherwise tame anime about small-town life.
