I caught this, from an actual local Detroit station this morning,
and left this comment:
Well done the judge. Good sentences.
These so-called parents didn’t care about their child, only themselves. They weren’t even there to offer him support when he was caught, they chose to clean out their bank accounts and run away. They had many chances to help their son, but because of their selfishness they will always be known as horrible, uncaring people who raised a murderer.
Sadly, I fear it won’t be the deterrent that it’s meant to be.
As a deterrent, probably not. Any parent who isn’t deterred by the prospect of their child committing an act of mass murder (that would also likely end in their own child’s death) isn’t likely to be deterred by the prospect of facing jail time in the aftermath of said massacre.
Even so it’s better than not having them face serious consequences for their actions.
