John Oliver on the brutal state of sex-ed in America

Big Cheese, no?

Tariffs and taxes to protect the Canadian dairy industry?

Big dairy for sure, but I guess this is like the meat conversation - I just donā€™t eat enough cheese to make it worth while bringing cheap cheese up from south of the border. Butter yes, and I have totally smuggled cultured Amish butter into the country from PA, and I would do it again in a heart beat!

Smuggled cheese? Smuggled cheese that isnā€™t any good? Iā€™m definitely living in the ā€œwrongā€ part of Ontario (or maybe the right part), what with St. Albert just down the roadā€¦

Smuggled cheese from America, not Quebec!

Ah. Donā€™t need to smuggle from Quebec - lots of good cheese in the Valley. (St. Albert is in the Valley.) If Iā€™m getting this right, though, the protectionism and the smuggling are a direct result of the fact that we stinkinā€™ Socialists donā€™t subsidise our farmers to the same extent as the good Capitalists to the South.

How ironic.

Delicious irony eh?

Playing Devilā€™s Advocate here but I think it could have to do with a regard for sexual activity as ā€˜realā€™ as opposed to bazooka-on-spleen ā€˜fantasyā€™ violence. Iā€™m not saying either is ok for kids to consume, but folks are likely motivated by a reasonable assumption their kids wonā€™t have to deal with exaggerated violence while wanting to take responsibility for the kidā€™s knowledge about what will be a part of their life.

Oh well, hereā€™s another link then.

Here, have one of mine.
Whatā€™s the issue with likes? Are they reciprocally generated or do we get a monthly quota?

I think likes for plebian members are more limited than the likes allowed the elite regularsā€¦

We had pretty decent sex ed in the late 80s/early 90s in my elementary/middle/high schools in Maine, somehow. I remember in 5th grade a man came in to talk about living with HIV. When it came to the Q&A at the end, one kid asked ā€œdid you get HIV from a man or a woman?ā€ The whole class erupted in laughter for a good minute until the presenter, stone-faced replied ā€œA man.ā€ Dead silence. He was, without a doubt, one of the bravest motherfuckers Iā€™ve ever had the opportunity to meet.

I wish it were easier to find the guidelines on that stuff around here. They really hide it.

You can find it through your badges on your profile, I think.

Maybe they do that because they donā€™t want people gaming the system, but to earn trust levels via real engagement? Youā€™d have to ask @codinghorror about that, though.

We were just talking about this over at the questions thread, mainly, why Iā€™m not at regular level yet.

I appear to be a plebian member as well.
Can any mods @Falcor @codinghorror or editors @beschizza give us the lowdown on likes?

That thread just made me realize that I donā€™t want what I thought I wanted.
