Did anyone else ever notice that Jody Foster has a cold sore she tried to cover up when she first talks to Hannibal Lector?

Neil Young & Jonathan Demme

I really loved to screwball comedy.

That one comes from good song town.

And of “Rachel Getting Married”. Probably in my top 3 movies released in the last 10 years.

All the obits I’ve seen today shamefully omit:

Demme liked working with Hitchcock so much he gave him a part in The Manchurian Candidate.

“Typhoid and swans, Clarice, it all comes from the same place.”

Demme changed my life! I’ll miss him.

Based on my extensive 30 seconds of research, that appears to be a Luke-I-Am-Your-Fatherism (which is, of course, when you insert a character name into a quote to make the reference less obscure).

I wrote this about Something Wild in the film thread a year or two ago:

He was one of us, and a great director.

it’s difficult putting into words that show empathy in some depth like a childhood friend thing

Good one.

It’s been a loooooong time since I’ve seen it but I remember it as the quintessential Manic Pixie Dream Girl® movie.
