I don’t really care that he wasted the time of the police department so much as that he gave more fuel to racism denialists to dismiss every legitimate hate crime as a “false flag” attack orchestrated by Social Justice Warriors trying to make white people look bad.

100% this, I’ve heard several people this week talking about it with thinly veiled racism, implying that this is the case for most hate crimes. It’s just disgusting, and I hope he’s ashamed of himself.
