That’s true, but there is reason to suspect that she was aware that she was an asymptomatic carrier and that she was responsible for outbreaks, but yet refused to admit so. She ran away, went into hiding then would disappear when the people around her got sick.
We’ve got the beginnings of an outbreak happening in New Zealand at the moment. It includes kids, but also a fair number of adults in their 20s and 30s due to a time period (apparently) where vaccination rates dropped when they should have been getting their boosters - unfortunately the age range who will be having the most babies and young children themselves. We do measles, mumps, and rubella in the same vaccine hear and there have been recent high profile cases of top sportspeople coming down with mumps. The most recent was a female 26 year old rugby player at the Commonwealth Games in Australia. The vaccine is free for anyone here.
I’ll look forward to that development right after more school shootings inspire the 2A fundamentalists to reevaluate things.
Warning: there’s a virus in the article’s picture.
How many generations ago was World War II?
Oh damn.
But corporations, like Soylent Green, are people.
I was going to say that goes without saying, but I guess it needs saying after all.
Oh, no, my rational Spock side of the brain agrees with you about unvaccinated people wandering around spreading potentially lethal diseases. I know that germ-wise, I’m a clean-smelling Petri dish. I must acknowledge the part of me that might wind up being Patient Zero for some soil-borne rash or sinus infection getting loose in the population.
…and the Typhoid Mary side of my brain says, “So. Only the old-timers get health insurance benefits? F#@k 'em all. You don’t LOOK sick. Drag yourself to work and at least punch the clock. Touch the copier buttons. Touch all the FedEx pouches. If they get to have paid sick leave, make them use it!”
Yeah, it’s combined into the MMR here, also. I think it’s free to kids about to start school, but for adults wanting a booster, it’s about $110.00. Yeah, I have the prices of the whole menu of vaccinations memorized. I blackmailed the second-to-last boss into buying me a tetanus booster after I got gashed by a rusty pruning saw in a dark, mouse-infested garage at one of her jobsites. “You know, if you don’t want to pay for it, I can check to see if your (non-existent) Worker’s Comp covers it…” She handed me the cash.
The problem with anti-Vaxxers is that they’re choosing to put holes in the collective defense we’ve put up to reduce the likelihood that they’ll become patient zero and infect all the newborns, immunodeficient, ect…And people tell them that and show them the evidence and they refuse to believe it. So now that outbreaks of long-controlled diseases are happening I still don’t think they’ll accept the fact that they’re decision is why. It’s not that they want people to get the measles and other contagions. It’s that they won’t face reality. It’s a textbook tragedy of the commons.
PBS’s Frontline ran an episode about the anti-vaxxers and took square aim at Jenny McCarthy. Easy meat. But, they did interview one mother whose baby died because she chose not to vaccinate her kids, and she was full of regret. She was the only one they filmed, and I don’t know if she was the only one who had come to that realization.
Jenny McCarthy is immune to science.
Edit: I read through the Frontline transcripts, and the infant didn’t die, she just came very, very close. Her unvaccinated older brother was a carrier who brought it home from another unvaccinated High School classmate who had full-blown measles. The infant was too young to be vaccinated, even if the parents were so inclined.
Faux is the flavor of our day, but misleading people to their disaster is sport for some, and has always paid well.
It bears re-repeating
That’s an earworm I’m happy to deal with. Thank you.
A buddy ‘Incorporated’ himself as a business back in the 80’s when he worked in the film industry. He claimed it helped lower his taxes. His is doing well retired these days.
So no to your answer. I mean yes… wait…
That’s the whole story, boss.
