WWII has a lot of interesting, unlikely characters.

Lyudmila Pavlichenko was a Russian sniper with 309 kills, the most successful female sniper in history.

The Poles, on the other hand, were one step from making Bear Calvary a reality with Wojtek, a soldier bear who helped move ammo crates and was a Polish outfits mascot.
