Why can’t you use touchscreens? The Paperwhite’s screen edges are the way to turn pages, but it’s very innocuous – just tap and go.
Because touchscreens go haywire? Because things are unpredictable? Because tapping makes things go all haywire all the time? Because I have tried touchscreens and have been stuck with two touchpads where I was unable to disable tapping, and they detected typing without actually touching the accursed touchpad as a series of moves and double-clicks?
Ok, just wanted to clarify that it’s a personal preference, rather than an actual inability to use them. For what it’s worth, the Paperwhite/Voyage touchscreen has never gone ‘haywire’ for me, and when reading books involves no double-clicks – just touch to the right to turn a page, touch to the left to go back.
Yes, it’s an actual inability to use them, rather than a personal preference.
Just saying is all, but you might have latent superpowers. Electrical touch, that sort of thing. I’d suggest a Tesla theme in case full superheroism/villainy develops.
My wife has a Nook tablet; purchased when they were around $125 at the end of 2013.
Despite my loading it with FBReader and a bunch of downloads, she’s yet to read a single ebook upon it.
I have a 2nd gen Kindle (the Kindle 2i, with the “i” for “international”, meaning the wi-fi would work overseas, and it had a different battery than the K2). No, the resolution isn’t as sharp, and there’s no back-light. But I paid about $60 new (through woot!), and it does everything I want. I have a clip-on light (the Kindle Candle, heh!) for the very few times I’m reading at night without some other light source. I have a very nice leather cover which gives it even more of a “book” feel.
Would I upgrade to a back-lit, paperwhite model? Yeah, as soon as they’re available for $60. Until then, I’m good.
In the Kindle’s designer’s defense, they kitbashed the prototype out of 1:24 scale Jawa sandcrawler model kits, or so I’m told.
