Well, let’s see. P=(V^2)/R so if you want around 25W of power at 120V, replacing the socket with about a 500 ohm resistance should do it. It would also last a lot longer. About 140 ohm for the 100W. Be sure to use power resistors. Electronic ones are rated for, at best, 1 W total heat dissipation. Put it in front of a regular light and Bob’s your uncle. Lava lamps never were much for illumination anyway so it might even be easier to see.
