Lego's Retro Radio isn't really a radio but it does play tunes

Traditionally “Old Timey Stations” played music and radio dramas from the 1930s to the 1950s. And still do, although most have become Internet radio stations rather than over the air. Given the 1970s stylings of this “radio” I wonder if they will play that kind of stuff or have classic rock playing instead.

It surely can’t be hard to shoehorn an actual radio into there though?

I’d have to get one and really look at it, but: considering it’ll hold a smartphone, it shouldn’t be too difficult to put something like a Raspberry Pi Zero W in it after configuring it to stream internet radio stations that do retro or vintage playlists. Rig up some inputs to connect the tuning and volume dials to change stations and adjust volume, and that should do the job nicely. Might even be enough room for a handful of “D” cells like the vintage units used to use, too.

Not actually a Space Shuttle.

Right? Isn’t shoehorning a radio into something an essential art of the last 50 years? I feel like I’m looking at the degradation of culture in real time: the things that were once so simple are now deemed either not worth the effort or simply insurmountable burdens.
But seriously way to blow it lego.

Toy radio? This seems appropriate.

I’m kidding. It’s $100, so, likely aimed at an older generation than the toddler set. A generation that both appreciates Lego kits that are only designed to build one thing and not likely the same generation with fond memories of the kind of radio that inspired the kit.

I hope this leads to the Lego Hip-Hop Collection… a bigger boom box kit, turn tables, a mixer, mic, etc.

we got two brick tables and a microphone
