I think porcupine rattle their quills as an extra warning, not that the leopard was paying much attention, its bloody paw, along with getting more quills in the already injured paw, pulling them out and still going back for more tends to indicate it’s not the sharpest button in the box!
I believe that porcupine quills have microscopic backward-pointing scales like barbs that make them even more painful to remove, so that cat is even more dimwitted, or else a true glutton for punishment!
